Fifer Orchards Inc logo In 1919, a Virginia farmer named Charles F. Fifer fell in love with the land of central Delaware. Upon discovering the moderate climate and hearty soil of this agriculturally rich region, he bought 3 farms - one near Milford, one near Rising Sun, and one a 1/2 mile west of Wyoming - and moved his family to a new home and a new life. Soon, he was growing apples, peaches, pears, and grapes. These were shipped to faraway points from the Wyoming train station.

Today, the farm operation covers 2500 acres, and includes apple, peach, pear, nectarine and plum orchards, sweet corn, asparagus, soybeans, lima beans, peas, pumpkins, tomatoes, cut flowers, green beans and grain crops along with several other crops that are grown exclusively for the Fifer stores.

The Fifer Country Store is located on the home farm, and gathers tens of thousands of customers every season for fresh produce. The farm also hosts festivals, The U-Pick experience and group tours.

Now in it's fourth generation, Fifer Orchards continues to preserve it's heritage and family tradition by growing high quality produce. The farm looks for innovative ways to remain viable and successful as a family business in very challenging and quickly changing agricultural industry.

Directions

Take Route 13 to Intersection of Rt 13 and Rt 10. Turn toward Dairy Queen and Eckerd’s onto Camden-Wyoming Ave. Follow to RR tracks (approximately 1.3 miles to reach RR tracks from Rt. 13), cross, take right and then, immediate left onto Grant St. We’re 1/2 mile out in the country on the right.

Our family farm begins harvesting our home-grown Asparagus in April. Tomatoes and Strawberries will be harvested shortly there after. These two crops are grown in high tunnels, which allow for an earlier harvest than usual. The late spring and summer months usher in a variety of fantastic fresh choices ncluding: Raspberries, Blueberries, Squash, Peppers, Onions, Cherries, Peaches, Apples, Nectarines, Plums, Sweet Corn, Spinach, Radishes, Beets, Scallions, Pumpkins, Lettuce, Carrots, Cucumbers, Eggplant, Cantaloupe, Watermelons, Canary Melons, Honeydew, Peas, Lima Beans, Green Beans and more! We take pride in growing the highest quality produce and you can be sure it's fresh picked daily. We offer 25 different varieties of Apples and 32 varieties of Peaches each with unique characteristics. Whether you're eating, cooking, freezing, canning, or baking, our staff will be glad to assist you in finding the best variety to suit your needs. Come browse in Grandma's "Country Cupboards", filled with tasty treats. There's everything from unusual jams and jellies to hot sauces that will "blow your top" to salad dressings that get a comment from your guests, every time, to delicious seasonings for dips, and easy to make bread, cake, crisp, and cobbler mixes.
